Amos Gitai's talky, minimalist Free Zone is a languorously paced, uncompromisingly brave look at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, filled with excellent performances and dazzling formal experiments.
"Free Zone was nominated for the Palm'Or at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival and features Hollywood star Natalie Portman in a tale set in the 'free zone' of the Iraq-Saudi-Jordan borders. Portman plays an American woman, Rebecca, in Israel to visit her father where she teams up with an Israeli woman, Hanna, to try and get back money owed to Hanna's husband from his black market activities. Hanna Laszlo was awarded the Best Actress award at Cannes for her performance in this film." Bluebell Films
